New sound walls shield Rochester, Minn., residents from highway noise.

Aug. 26–Sound-blocking walls are going up along parts of U.S. 52 in Rochester, and for residents whose homes overlook the busy highway, that’s a good thing.

“It certainly does cut down on the traffic noise,” said Del Ollhoff, 2016 17th Ave. N.W.

Work crews have been installing wall panels this week on Olhoff’s block, on the east side of the highway, shielding the homes there from the roar of 60,000 passing cars each day
