This new top-class event proved its place on the sporting calendar with some of Northern Ireland’s top athletes hailing the event the best extreme run around!
International Marathon Runner and first ever Norn Iron Man – Don Travers from Newry powered ahead of Eirin McDaid in the final lap. Eirin, a world-class cross-country runner from Dungannon, led for the first four laps but an old ankle injury proved decisive as Don Travers showed his stamina and picked up his pace on the final hill.
Speaking after treatment from the medics Eirin said: “Very tough course but a great challenge.
The downward hills were an absolute nightmare, they just pounded your legs to bits but you felt you were getting a rest on the flats. I was never so glad to see a finish line a next time I will definitely aim to win- and I will not be playing football the day before
